Līga Ejupe
Director of the Klinklava Gallery at Latvian Center Garezers in Three Rivers, Michigan; lecturer and Latvian art history teacher; former Director of the Astra Gallery in Chicago; Ph.D. in art history from the University of Chicago, with a dissertation about exile art.
Gaŗezera Klinklāva galerijas vaditāja; Gaŗezera vidusskolas mākslas pasniedzēja; bijušā Čikāgas galerijas Astra vaditāja; Doktorgrādu ieguvusi Čikāgas Universitātē, rakstot disertāciju mākslas vēsturē par bēgļu mākslu.

Ruta Jostsons
Well-known supporter of the Chicago Latvian cultural community and Latvian art and music; organizer of many Latvian group and solo exhibitions as well as musical concerts; distinguished collector of Latvian art.
Ilggadīga, labi pazīstama Čikāgas sabiedriska un kultūras darbiniece; sarīkojusi vairākas grupu un solo izstādes kā arī koncertus; kolekcionāra ar izcilu latviešu mākslas darbu kolekciju.

Māra Pelēce
Artist (MFA), scholar of art and culture; has lived and worked in Latvia; developed interviews and video documentation of the Latvian diaspora community and the place of Latvian culture in diaspora society.
Māksliniece (MFA), mākslas un kultūras pētniece; dzīvojusi Latvijā; izveidojusi video darbus, pētot diasporas kultūras personigo nozīmi trimdas latviešu dzīvēs.

Editor of the Latvian monthly news magazine, Cikagas Zinas; co-author and editor of The Book Latvia; widow of well-known Latvian diaspora artist, Vitauts (Vito) Simanis.

Global Society Mourns Passing of Board Member Valdis Muiznieks

Dr. Valdis Muiznieks died unexpectedly on Friday, July 10, 2009 enroute to his home in Kalamazoo, Michigan from the East Coast. He was born December 1, 1927 in Rugaji, Latvia, the son of Aleksandrs and Beatrise Muiznieks. Dr. Muiznieks immigrated to the United States with his mother and 4 siblings in 1949. In 1950, he moved to Chicago and in 1959 to Kalamazoo, Michigan.

In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of the Global Society for Latvian Art, Dr. Muiznieks was an active member of the American Latvian Association, Daugavas Vanagi, Fraternity Valdemarija, Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church of Kalamazoo, and other Latvian organizations. He is remembered for his work with Western Michigan University (WMU) in the development of the Latvian language program, and was a recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from WMU in 1985. In 1996, Dr. Valdis Muiznieks received from the President of Latvia the prestigious award "The Tris Zvaigznu Ordenis" for his lifelong work with the Latvian Community in the U.S.A.

The Global Society extends its sincere condolences to Valdis’s family. It was an honor to include Valdis, one of the giants of the Latvian diaspora cultural community, as a member of the Global Society’s Board. He will be greatly missed.
